Yes, that’s blood.  Residents are cleaning out a Sunni mosque in Ghundai, Pakistan after a suicide bombing.   Over 40 were killed and many others wounded.  Although the effect of the explosion on those within must have been amplified by the brick walls, the solid construction also saved many more lives.  And then the hoses and brooms were brought out and the clean-up begun.  More solidness–this time in the local community that can matter-of factly get on with the responsibility of living together.
There is much to admire in the practicality of ordinary people responding to the ongoing disasters that plague the early years of the 21st century.  And yet I can’t help but think, that is the hell of it. They, and we, and everyone seems trapped in damage control rather than in making some of the obvious, albeit large-scale changes needed to move beyond political violence.
The photograph captures this paradox.  On the one hand, it is a picture of functionality: a simple, well-built building and people working together to get the job done, no frills and no drama.  On the other hand, that horrible river of human blood–and the knowledge that innocent people have been reduced to sewage.  The scene appears too ordinary to be a picture of war, and yet I shudder to think this is what passes for peace.”

there are owls around my house at night..

they peep and peep the whole night through. Its babies, nagging to their mother for food. Here is a picture that I didn’t take but Håkon Likvern did.

There was an orange cat that liked to hide behind bushes and jump out at you when you walked by. I thought its name was Ninja, which is a great name for a cat. I found out on the last day that I’d misheard and it was called Ginger. Please.

the exhibition is blooming! Tomorrow I will start hanging up the works and on monday it opens.

People here have a hard time getting out of their nice little sofas. I think there will be few people at the gallery opening. Either way I will be so glad on monday night when its all hanging up.

I dreamed I met Will Oldham, and he was a bit of a moron. I think I told him that too. We sat in the grass somewhere and he was very happy and talkative. Thats about all i recall.

Today has been pretty good, the garden is great but the weather is cold and I am a bit lazy in the weekends now that I work every day.

The lillies I have planted are starting to grow grow grow! 5 cm now. And the weather is cold. very cold.

22nd of may 2011, the day after the rapture …..yeah

I am very content with my quiet life here in Elverum lately, because I have a job now and because I really like it there, and because I have a new friend that I meet up with weekly, her name is Stine and she is great.:)

In about 12 days Dirk comes and will stay for the summer. He’s gotten a summerjob at a bar called Soundgarden. After summer he goes to Belgium to study. I’ve applied for various schools in Oslo, and yesterday I heard a friend of mine has done the same. … anyway, I would like to try living in oslo. At least a year or 3.

Yesterday I biked home with these sticks from a bush to plant here in the garden. I got them from Stines mom, and she told me it was best to put them in water untill i plant them. As I went inside for water and got back out on the portch again some little animal was yelling at me from the flowerbed. I didnt see anything but the nagging went on. I called my stepdad to come hear but when he got out it stopped and when we looked for it it was gone. So last night I had a dream about lots of mice and a huge rat (looked like a evil guniea pig) in my kitchen as i came home from work,…They wanted me out of the house and I had a long fight with the biggest one using a broomstick. He kept on coming back up from the stairs outside and all and marching steadily towards me. It was quite something,. In the meantime I had trapped a mouse in the kitchen in a cage and put it clumsily in a bowl of water, so when i got back the mouse was dead, drowned, it was my fault and it had a tiny toysoldier or somethings hand that was broken off and lying next to it. :(

Nightmare!
